The 2017 Joyce Sanborn Memorial Concert is taking a different form than previous years.  this year, we are having an informational presentation by Volker Narhmann, an expert on large string instruments.  Mr Narhmann will be speaking about Abraham Prescott, a noted luthier from Deerfield NH. Mr Prescott was born in 1789, and in 1809, he began making church basses.  These instruments were similar to the vioncello and were the first musical instruments used to aid singing in New England Congregational Churches.  As such, they and their maker were an important step in the development of our church music.

Mr Narhmann will bring several Prescott instruments which he will play for us, along with posters, photographs, and a slide show.  The presentation is free and open to the public; all are welcome!
